Telpe Formulas and Design Comparator. This page has formulas for many telpe and mirror parameters. It will calculate parameters for two different telpe designs and compare the results for you. It provides data to help in selecting a telpe, and also provides information necessary for mirror making and testing.
It is not a robot, but just a pattern of polishing. For big aperture though, spinning a large mirror and moving a large polisher might be too much work. That is why the mirror lab spun caste their glass to avoid hogging, and then had a robot go around grinding and polishing the high spots. Or maybe they spun ground it.
You may notice that many commercial telpe advertisements proclaim they use "Hand Figured Optics" - in fact this is one of the best and least expensive ways to get an accurate surface on a mirror - most machines just can't hold the tolerances necessary, and any good telpe optic, including the mirror you could make in your kitchen, should be hand figured.
I finally decided it was time to build a machine to help me grind the edges of the blanks true and round. This is my home-built edge grinding machine for grinding down my home-cast mirror blanks. There are many reasons for grinding your own mirror. Either you want a unusual size, or focal length, or to satisfy your curiosity, or to have the "pride of achievement" by fabricating something as precise as a telpe mirror.
I started this thread to record my building progress of a new mirror grinding and polishing machine. This machine will be capable of handling mirror sizes up to 22". I have decided that 22" is the absolute maximum otherwise becomes too cumbersome to move around. I have won 2 x 1/3 horse power single phase electric motors on eBay, at $45 each.

So I bought a cheap pillow block to provide the locator for the metal dowel, and then drilled the overarm to fit. These pillow blocks are $8 and come complete with a locking collar - great deal.
