The Benchmaster is a good little horizontal mill, but it is little. The vertcal head for these is rather limited IIRC. You can convert any of the smaller horizontal mills to a high speed verical head like the Rusnok. (1/4hp, "Y" collets up to 1/2", 280 - 4800 rpm, and 1.5" of quill travel.) I had one on my Benchmaster, but it was lacking in Z.

I have a Benchmaster myself. It has a heavy table, and I scraped mine into good alignment, so it is pretty chatter-free, as mills that size go. But one of the usual advantages of a vertical mill these days IS the quill, and what having that does for you. I seriously question the price vs what you get as far as an actual machine.
I use a Benchmaster at work just about every day. It is great for milling wood, brass, and aluminum. It's not that great for running cutters above 1/4", and not that great for milling steel. $100 is a great deal for one, and that one looks like it is in pretty nice shape. I have seen them go for over $1000 on eBay, when two people really want one.

The Benchmaster has a vertical mill version, which may likely be what the OP wants (most folks in that size category do not want a horizontal mill). The Burke does not, I think, have that option, so as you say, it would need a separate vertical head. The size restraints and small work may suggest the Benchmaster.
